CPSO administers the Out-of-Hospital Premises Inspection Program (OHPIP) which develops and maintains standards for the provision of medical procedures performed in Ontario out-of-hospital premises (OHPs) and inspects and assesses such premises for safety and quality of care.
To ensure that an appropriate standard of care is being met in OHPs which are providing care for patients suffering from chronic pain, a new draft OHP Standard has been developed.
We want you to help us refine CPSO’s new draft OHP Standard: Image Guidance When Administering Nerve Blocks for Adult Chronic Pain before it’s finalized.
This new OHP Standard is being developed to require image guidance when administering certain nerve blocks for adult chronic pain in OHPs to enhance patient safety, clarify CPSO’s expectations, and to address some of the known issues in the space.
A companion Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) document has been developed to clarify the draft OHP Standard.

Next Steps:
Your feedback is important to us. Your comments will be carefully reviewed and used to help us evaluate the draft OHP Standard.
CPSO Council will ultimately determine what revisions will be made when finalizing and approving the OHP Standard. If Council approves the draft OHP Standard, impacted physicians will be given an opportunity to comply with the requirements and make any necessary arrangements to ensure their patients are not unduly impacted as part of the implementation.
